The Veiled Ones is a stealth horror game about a Muslim exorcist trying to save his son from a jinn possession. Inspired by the invisible entities from Islam, the players must rely on a magic artifact and their hearing to survive the jinn haunting their son, and unravel the mystery behind their son's disappearance.
Created a custom bipedal rig with an extra set of arms. Used IKs on both the legs and arms. Since the bottom half of the Father Jinn is covered by multiple layers of clothing, we decided to only model the upper body. The legs were rigged so that a VFX could be added to the Father Jinn's footsteps. Due to the Father Jinn having five different pieces of cloth covering his body, I rigged all of them and hand animated them according to each animation to limit the amount of cloth simulation needed during the actual gameplay.
Created a custom bipedal rig with an extra set of arms, just like with the Father Jinn. Since the body was again covered with cloth, only the arms were modeled. The same cloth bones were added to each piece of fabric to get rid of the need to use cloth simulation in engine.
Built on top of a bought player arm asset with a player camera that could be used to hold the looking glass. The looking glass could also be toggled on and off, depending on the animation needs
We used a pre-rigged asset Poor Child, as the model for Emir. I used this model to create a series of blend shapes of all the talking mouth shapes and an eye closed, and a frown.

Most of the animations in the five cutscenes were frame-by-frame animated, with the exception of the camera movements and two of the hand animations. The camera movements and hand animations were mocapped with an iPhone, and the data was cleaned up in engine. I used Cinemachine within Unity to time and put together all of the different animations that made up each cutscene.
